Track 2021

This year’s track team is being coached by Jim Preston, Lance Nelson, and Sarah Kensinger. On Saturday, May 15th, both the high school and middle school Legacy Christian track teams competed in the Metro Buckeye conference track meet.

Many of the athletes succeeded in breaking both personal and school records. Amongst the middle school runners, 8th grader Caroline Hamilton broke the school record for the 200m hurdles with a time of 31.88 seconds. In addition, 7th grader Isaac Crawford ran the 200m hurdles as well with a time of 33.96.

Amongst the high school throwers, sophomore Ethan Cooper finished in 4th place in discuss with a throw of 90’ 0”, and freshman Adam Newell finished in 5th place with a throw of 89’9”. In shot put, junior Nick Alvarez finished in 4th place with a 31’ 7.5” throw! Breaking a high school women shot put school record, sophomore Caroline Kensinger threw 31’ 2.25”.

Sophomore Nate Gibbs achieved a PR in the 200m dash with a time of 28.61 seconds, and sophomore Maddy Merritt set a PR in the 300m hurdles with the time of 48.77 seconds. Junior Josh Hamilton broke his personal record by 5 seconds in the 800 with a time of 2:09.88! Senior Caden Nelson set a personal record in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.72 seconds. Caden also competed in the 4x400m relay with Josh Hamilton, Thomas Walquist, and Jonathan Merritt. They set a new PR with a time of 3 minutes and 46 seconds. Finally, junior Jonathan Merritt also competed in the 1 mile, in which he placed first with a time of 4 minutes and 44 seconds!

Halfway through the conference meet, the four 2021 senior track athletes, Emme Holley, Margaret Kensinger, Caden Nelson, and Thomas Walquist, were honored. Kensinger was awarded both the MBC Coaches Award and the Sportsmanship Award. Nelson also received the Sportsmanship Award for track and field.

Every track team member has had a great year. The middle school teams wrapped their season up with the conference meet; however, some of the high school athletes have advanced to compete in the Ohio Southwest districts meet, which will occur on Monday, May 17th and continue Saturday, May 22nd.
